Position Summary
As a member of the Great Oaks Tutor Corps, you will mentor and tutor middle or high school students at a Great Oaks Charter School for the duration of one school year (August-June). This is a service role through AmeriCorps with regular full-time hours Monday-Friday and some Saturdays.
In exchange for your year of service you will receive a living stipend, free furnished housing with utilities included, health insurance and on-going professional development throughout the year. You will also be eligible for a Segal Education Award through AmeriCorps after the completion of your AmeriCorps term of service. Responsibilities
As a Great Oaks Tutor Corps member you will invest your time and energy in the success of a small group of middle or high school students to help pave the way to their college success. The majority of students enter Great Oaks several years below grade level, so this role requires hard work, creativity and a dedication to helping students beat the odds. Most of your day will be spent tutoring students one-on-one or in small groups. You will also take part in secondary projects that directly impact the academic achievements of students. These projects may include providing in-class or curriculum support, organizing or leading after school clubs or working with our culture team.
Specific responsibilities include:
Bolstering student achievement:
⢠Provide daily tutoring to several small groups of Great Oaks students
⢠Work closely with teachers to develop individualized tutorial content
⢠Assess student progress on a regular basis
⢠Bridge a connection between classroom teachers and the content they deliver in their classrooms with the content you are delivering during tutorial sessions
⢠Lead after-school student clubs
⢠Support Saturday Academy over the course of the school year when necessary (dependent on school community placement)
⢠Work with students to set individualized student driven goals on a frequent basis
⢠Actively participate in meetings pertaining to your role as a tutor and the success of the students you are working with
Building relationships with families:
⢠Develop authentic relationships with families through phone calls and other communications to share progress on student tutorial performance

Assist with overall student success during the school day:
â¢Be present during transitions and escorting students when necessary

How Alo7 works:
Tutors can choose a block of time slots within the Peak tutoring time frame and tutor as little as 6 hours per week and as many as 21 hours during Peak tutoring time.
The # of Peak tutoring hours on a weekly basis are proposed by you. Once you commit to the time slots, classes will be booked and you will have a steady of flow of students on a weekly basis. You face same set of students for a certain time slot, for example, every Monday 7am to 7:30am, you will tutor same group of students and you will build bonding with them. This Model provides you with steady hours for tutoring that sets us different from other programs where parents drive the booking of tutor's time and tutors have no control of how many classes they tutor next week.
All applicants will be recommended to tutor for minimum 6 hours per week on a steady basis within peak tutoring time frame. The 6 hours or 12 hours or 21 hours, or whatever hours you can commit need to be consistent availability week by week as you will face same group of students for a fixed time slots.
You can simply make close to $1000 (base pay alone) by working only 2 to 3 hours per day without leaving your own home. We also provide other projects to qualified tutors to work such as evaluating teachers' performance, working on some presentations, online resume screening, curriculum development, recruiting, etc. These projects are all paid. Qualified tutors in our program can work more during other time slots which do not have to be peak tutoring time.Â
An income of $1500 for this part time opportunity out of your own home is achievable with our program for steady and qualified tutors / teachers.

We believe in the capacity of our students to regain control of their academic future and recast themselves as strong, independent and self-sufficient adults.
We are seeking talented individuals who are interested in making a difference in the lives of students who have previously struggled in school through daily tutoring. The right individual for this year of service will have a fierce commitment to confronting the educational inequality that exists in inner city education today. Because our students are often suffering from years of educational neglect or apathy, our staff must be driven with a sense of urgency and energy.
The 2017-2018 Phoenix AmeriCorps Fellowship will include up to 36 full-time AmeriCorps members, each working closely with high school students and tutoring them in Math, English, and Biology.
Every Member's Essential and Marginal Functions will include -Essential Functions- Approximately 3-5 hours a day:
-Tutoring students in math, English, and biology for the state MCAS
-Mentoring students who have a history of truancy, are former drop-outs, or are court-involved.
-Developing strong relationships with students, parents, and other adult
-Marginal Functions- Approximately 1-3 hours a day:
- Assisting teachers in classrooms by working in small groups with special education and English
-Language Learner students, or providing extra support to struggling
-Collaborating with community organizations to ensure student success and
-AmeriCorps members are expected to be on campus from 7:45 am to 5:00 pm In addition to these hours, many AmeriCorps members choose to lead extra-curricular groups (in the past, these have included yearbook, language clubs, or sports teams) outside of regular school hours.
Important: Phoenix AmeriCorps members are engaging in a year of service. All members are provided with dormitory style housing (living in a single or double and sharing a bathroom with 2-3 other members), a living stipend (up to $10,500 for the year), healthcare coverage, and are eligible for an educational financial award at the end of their year of service.

An Associates degree from a two-year college or Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university is required.
